Department of Molecular Neurology was established on April 1, 2017 for the purpose of realizing new treatments effective for neurological diseases by elucidating the molecular mechanism based on detailed clinical information and research that integrates comprehensive genome analysis, furthermore, by advancing research on development of treatments that can intervene in pathophysiological mechanism and applied research into clinical trials based on the elucidated molecular mechanism of neurological diseases.
As research contents, we aim to elucidate genomic mutation related to the pathogenesis of neurological diseases by performing comprehensive genome analysis and integrated analysis with detailed clinical information to elucidate the pathogenic mechanism of neurological diseases such as multiple system atrophy. Furthermore, we advance to development of treatments that can intervene in pathophysiological mechanism by doing analysis using cultured cells and animal models to elucidate the pathophysiological mechanism caused by genomic mutation. So far, there have been medications that symptomatically ameliorate symptoms, but effective treatments that can suppress disease progression have not been realized for slowly progressive neurodegenerative diseases. We aim to realize effective treatments that can suppress disease progression by elucidating the pathogenic mechanism of neurological diseases at the molecular level and achieving pathophysiological suppression treatments that can directly intervene in elucidated pathophysiological mechanism.
